Aaron was born in San Francisco, as befits the family tradition, even though the family lived in San Pablo at the time. He moved to Hayward with the family a couple years later before finally settling in Castro Valley a few years after that. Aaron attended school in the Castro Valley public school system. It wasn’t until leaving for college fifteen years later that he moved again.
He formally learned to read in Kindergarten, but his love of reading began long before that. For the next fifteen years he had his nose buried in a book. His great achievement of the fourth grade was having read Jaws for a book report. Through grade school he developed a taste for The Hardy Boys and conned his Grandmother Jaques into producing a complete set. During high school his tastes expanded to include science fiction and fantasy and even stretched to include The Stranger by Camus. Never one to throw away a book he is developing a library, which finds its intellectual soul in a collection of Catch-22 paperbacks.
While in grade school, he enjoyed the weekly soccer games and baseball games that the local leagues organized. During the summer, he enjoyed the weekly swim meets on the Dolphin team. The daily morning workouts were another thing entirely. During high school, he lettered in cross country, swimming, and track.
Boy Scouts was a big part of his life as well, and he started as a Cub Scout in pack 728 in 1983. After going through all the ranks in the Cub Scouts he joined the Boy Scouts Troop 708. In similar fashion he rose through the ranks and attained Eagle with some of his friends. Highlights of his Scouting career include his week at Philmont High Adventure Camp in Arizona and two years being part of the leadership in Brownsea.
Aaron went to Chabot Community College, taking advantage of their interdisciplinary studies program, which took him to London for a quarter. At a loss on which four-year institution to attend he narrowed down his selection to the University of California system, ultimately selecting UC Irvine as their catalogue had the best cover. He majored in English and returned to London for his ‘second’ junior year. After being graduated from UCI, he again returned to London with a green card to work. He lived with a family he had met on his first trip. He befriended the vicar’s family while going to church, and since the son’s room was empty while he was visiting the U.S. there was room for Aaron in the house.
When Aaron returned to the U.S., he returned to Southern California and ended up working for Kelley Blue Book as a Contributing Editor. The job takes him on some adventures driving various cars, and he loves it.
Aaron has enjoyed climbing rocks and is thrilled with the new indoor climbing areas. When on vacations in Yosemite as a child he was known to cause great distress to his parents by climbing walls well above their heads. During more recent trips he has been sure to take advantage of the opportunity to climb with professional guidance.
